History

Union Street Players (USP), Pella’s award-winning community theater, began in 1987 with a small group of interested individuals who produced short pieces for the community’s annual summer “Thursdays on the Square.”  The group was incorporated as a non-profit organization in January 1989. Since that time, USP has been dedicated to providing quality live theatre for Pella and our surrounding communities. We are proud to have been awarded the designation “Best Performing Group” in the Red Rock Area for several years and has received several awards for outstanding performances/contributions by the Iowa Association of Community Theatres.

Each year USP produces three productions on our home stage, the Joan Kuyper Farver auditorium in the Pella Community Center. Our season generally  includes:

  • a Spring production (Feb/Mar/Apr)
  • a Summer production (Jul/Aug)
  • a Holiday production (Nov/Dec)
