Union Street Players (USP) and members of the local theatre community gathered on Saturday night to say “farewell” to Walk of Fame members Pat and Peg Moriarity. The Moriaritys have been two of USPs most dedicated and prolific members. Pat served for years as USP Treasurer and served as Producer on more shows than anyone else in USP’s history. Peggy has been a constant presence backstage helping with make-up and has been one of the USP Costume Shop’s most faithful volunteers. In addition, both Pat and Peg had performed on stage in many shows over the years. They are moving to Arkansas to be closer to grandkids, but promise to pay regular visits back in Pella. Their departure leaves a hole that will be greatly felt in our organization.
The evening also celebrated the departure of Karl Deakyne who is moving to Chicago in a few weeks to start a new career opportunity there. Karl has only been involved in USP for the past four years but logged stage roles in nine productions during that time and has become a valued member of the USP family.
The farewell party had been planned and was to be hosted by Pati and Arvin Van Zante, but the unexpected death of Pati’s mother prompted a change of venue. Holly and Doug DeWolf were kind enough to host the event. A good number of guests attended to celebrate Pat, Peg, and Karl including those who drove from other communities.
Union Street Players wishes Pat, Peg, and Karl our best wishes as they venture off to new places!
