2014 Christmas Carol

“A Christmas Carol” Kicks Off the Holidays!

2014 12 02 USP Christmas Carol - 2,037

With a final “God bless us, everyone!” from Tiny Tim, Union Street Players closed it’s 2014 production of A Christmas Carol yesterday. Directed by Pati Van Zante, the large cast performed five shows over the weekend. There are usually four shows produced on a typical weekend, but a misprint in early advertising for Pella’s annual “Christmas in Pella” weekend and Tour of Homes listed Saturday’s performance as a 2:00 p.m. matinee. Rather than trying to correct the mistake, the cast and crew simply embraced it and added a fifth performance to the weekend.

Attendance numbers for the five show run were:

Thu Dec 4: 139
Fri Dec 5: 278
Sat Dec 6 (matinee): 168
Sat Dec 6 (evening): 206
Sun Dec 7: 200

Total: 991

Eulogy for One of USP’s Founding Members

Tom Waechter, one of Union Street Players’ founding members and a former Board Member, was memorialized yesterday in a service at Second Reformed Church where he was a life-long member. Tom passed away last week. Several USP members were present to pay their respects including Walk of Fame members Bev Graves, Pat Moriarity, Arvin Van Zante, Pat Van Zante, and Lisa Witzenburg. USP also sent a beautiful bouquet of flowers for the service.

During the service, Rev. Sophie Matthonet-Vander Well read excerpts from a eulogy written by USP Alumnus, Rick Schmidt who was directed by Tom in four of the five USP productions Waechter directed (Harvey [1990], Arsenic and Old Lace [1992], You Can’t Take it With You [1993], The Man Who Came to Dinner [1995]).

Rick’s eulogy was made available to anyone who wanted to read it. You make download or open the file from the link below.
