USP Founding Member Passes

Union Street Players (USP) is sad to announce the passing of founding member Tom Waechter at the age of 74. Tom was heavily involved in the early years of our community theatre. His first credited involvement came in USP’s first year as an incorporated non-profit group when he helped with advertising and ticket sales in productions of Never Too Late and Polky-Dot and the Christmas Wish. Tom’s involvement grew in subsequent years. He served four terms as the group’s Vice-President (1990-1993) and directed five shows:

  • Harvey (1990)
  • Arsenic and Old Lace (1992)
  • You Can’t Take It With You (1993)
  • Greater Tuna (1995)
  • The Man Who Came to Dinner (1995)

Though he had not been actively involved for many years, Tom continued to attend USP shows and supported numerous productions by loaning furniture and other items for set pieces and props. USP is appreciative of Tom’s contributions to the group and the leadership he provided during the early years of our organization. He will be remembered at USP’s annual Award’s Dinner in the fall of next year.

Waechter is, sadly, the fourth major contributor USP has memorialized in recent years. He joins Walk of Fame member Dottie McGee along with Sherman Van Zee, and Mike Atkins. USP will pass along funeral and memorial information as it becomes available.

“Anne of Green Gables” Audition Information

Anne of Green Gables

Adapted by Peter DeLaurier based on novel by L.M. Montgomery

Directed by Anne McCullough Kelly (amcculloughkelly@gmail.com)

Anne of Green Gables is a classic, bestselling 1908 novel by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery which recounts the adventures of Anne Shirley, a young orphan girl, age 11 who is mistakenly sent to Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, a middle-aged brother and sister who have a farm on Prince Edward Island and who had intended to adopt a boy to help them.
