Union Street Players production of the classic Broadway musical “Once Upon a Mattress” will be performed this weekend! Don’t miss your chance to laugh and be entertained by Pella’s award-winning community theatre. This musical retelling of the classic fairy tale The Princess and the Pea is sure to delight audience members of all ages. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at the door of any performance ($15). All seats for this show are General Admission. Doors open one-half hour prior to curtain.

03 Drama Camp

USP Drama Camp Update

The morning session of USP Drama Camp (for children who’ve completed Kindergarten through children who’ve finished 4th grand) is full. We’re sorry to inform you that we will not be accepting any more registrations for these ages.

The afternoon session of Drama Camp (for children who’ve completed 5th grade through children who’ve completed 8th grade) still has room. 

Here are the particulars:

Dates: August 1-5, 2011
Times:
8:30-11:30 a.m. for kids who’ve just finished Kindergarten through 4th grade (Sorry, CLASS IS FULL)
12:30-3:30 p.m. for kids who’ve just finished 5th through 8th grade (Limited availability)
Location: Pella Community Center (712 Union St.)
Cost:
$50 for an individual child
$35 for a sibling
$25 for each additional sibling
(Price includes instruction, snacks, and a t-shirt!)

Instructors

Andy McGuire returns for his second summer of teaching grades K-4th grade. Andy is a graduate of Central College where he majored in theare. He has spent the past year performing in a travelling educational theatre troupe in Minnesota. Andy returns to Pella this summer to direct Pella Shakespeare Company’s Youth Troupe.

Suzi Jones teaches theatre at Pella High School and returns for her third year of teaching Drama Camp. Suzi has been active on the USP stage acting in Annie and The Odd Couple.

USP Annual Meeting August 8

Union Street Players will hold their annual meeting on August 8, 2011 at 7 p.m. in the Pella Community Center. The Pella community theatre’s fiscal year begins September 1st and elections for board members will be held at the annual meeting.

Members wishing to run for an office on the USP Board of Directors may place their names on the ballot by contacting USP Secretary, Anne McCullough Kelly at amculloughkelly@gmail.com. All board positions are open for nomination and election: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, and three at-large Board positions.

The public is always welcome at USP meetings though only members may vote in the annual elections and vote in regular monthly meetings. Membership in Union Street Players requires $10 in dues. Treasurer, Wendy Vander Well (wendyvanderwell@gmail.com), will be accepting dues for the 2011-2012 year at the annual meeting.

The curtain on Union Street Players’ production of “Once Upon a Mattress” is set to rise on Thursday, July 28 and it has never been easier to get your tickets for this classic American musical.

For the first time, USP is selling tickets to this family friendly musical through multiple outlets. You can even purchase tickets at the customer service counter at Pella’s Hy-Vee! You can also talk to cast and crew members who can provide tickets for you. As always, tickets are available at the Pella Community Services office in the Pella Community Center (M-F 7:30-11:30 a.m. or 12:30-4:30 p.m.). Tickets may also be purchased by phone using Visa, Mastercard or Discover; simply call Tom or Wendy at 641-620-9107.

“Once Upon a Mattress” is the musical retelling of “The Princess and Pea” and was made famous on Broadway by Carol Burnett. The musical launched Burnett to stardom and the classic tale is as fresh and fun as ever. Tickets are only $10 in advance.
