USP Drama Camp 2011

Union Street Players will once again host Drama Camp this summer! Drama Camp is a fun-filled week of theatre activities for kids concluding with a special performance to show off what they’ve learned on Friday evening, August 5th.

Here are the particulars:

Dates: August 1-5, 2011
8:30-11:30 a.m. for kids who’ve just finished Kindergarten through 4th grade (Sorry, CLASS IS FULL)
12:30-3:30 p.m. for kids who’ve just finished 5th through 8th grade
Location: Pella Community Center (712 Union St.)
$50 for an individual child
$35 for a sibling
$25 for each additional sibling
(Price includes instruction, snacks, and a t-shirt!)


Andy McGuire returns for his second summer of teaching grades K-4th grade. Andy is a graduate of Central College where he majored in theare. He has spent the past year performing in a travelling educational theatre troupe in Minnesota. Andy returns to Pella this summer to direct Pella Shakespeare Company’s Youth Troupe.

Suzi Jones teaches theatre at Pella High School and returns for her third year of teaching Drama Camp. Suzi has been active on the USP stage acting in Annie and The Odd Couple.

NCT Performs “Proof” This Weekend!

USP Walk of Fame Member Arvin Van Zante

Union Street Players‘ Walk of Fame member, Arvin Van Zante, will be performing in Newton Community Theatre’s production of “Proof” this weekend! Here’s the skinny:

Newton Community Theatre will be presenting “Proof” on June3, 4, 9, 10 & 11 at 7:30 PM

Winner of the 2001 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for Best Play.  Proof is the one you won’t want to miss this spring it combines elements of mystery and surprise with old-fashioned storytelling to provide a compelling evening of theatre.  The story ist hat of Catherine and her late father, who was both mentally ill and amathematical genius.  Catherine struggles with the heritage her fatherleft behind – paradigms and prime numbers, madness and meaning –while seeking her own path to the future. Tickets are $10, student $7.  The box office can be reached at 792-1230. The box office is staffed weekdays from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and 6:30-8:00 p.m., and one hour before each show.  You can also leave a message on the answering machine.

Pella Shakespeare Youth Troupe Auditions

This from Pella Shakespeare Company:

Auditions for the Pella Shakespeare Youth troupes will be will be held BOTH Friday, June 3 from 6:30- 8:30 AND Saturday  June 4, 2011 from 1pm-3pm at the Joan Kuyper Farver Auditorium in the Pella Community Center located at 712 Union St in Pella. This year the Shakespeare Festival will hold one week intensives with a final showcase at the end of each session. A maximum of 15 actors will be selected for each troupe. As always, both our workshops and performances are FREE!


The Pella Shakespeare Company and invites actors between the ages of 10 and 18 to Shake Up YOUR Summer with us!
