Pella Community Foundation Mics Up USP

This past week, Union Street Players was the grateful recipient of a $1,000 grant from the Pella Community Foundation to help fund boundary mics for USP’s stage home in the Joan Kuyper Farver Auditorium in the Pella Community Center. Three boundary microphones will sit on the front of the stage and another one hangs from above center stage.

“The microphones really help us with big musical shows like Annie or next summer’s Once Upon a Mattress,” said current USP President Tom Vander Well. “They help pick up the sound of the singing voices on stage and amplify them over the sound of the pit orchestra. They are especially helpful when we have a lot of children or smaller voices on stage.”

The boundary microphones are a welcome addition to the auditorium sound system which as been upgraded in recent years with digital array speakers. The upgrades are a joint venture between Union Street Players and the City of Pella.

“The Pella Community Foundation has been a faithful and integral partner with USP,” Vander Well said, “allowing us to fulfill or mission to continually improve the quality of our productions for the community. Were it not for the Foundation and our faithful patrons, we would have a hard time producing quality shows and keeping our ticket prices low.”

Union Street Players begins their 24th season later this week. Auditions are scheduled for a production of “Vintage Hitchcock” directed by Pat Moriarity.
