USP Announces 2009 Walk of Fame Inductees

USP AWARDS NIGHT On Saturday night, September 12th, Union Street Players will hold our 2nd Annual Award's Night at Monarch's on the Mollengracht. Last year, USP instituted a "Walk of Fame" to anually honor members who have been instrumental in the group's 23 years of success. One of last year's three inaugural honorees, Dottie McGee, was battling cancer and unable to attend the Award night. Dottie will be honored this year along with two other inductees.

Walk of Fame inductees are chosen by the USP Board of Directors from a group of individuals nominated by the general USP membership. Nominees are those who have generally been involved for ten years or longer, have participated in a variety of capacities, and have been instrumental in USP furthering our mission.

This year, USP will induct two additional individuals to the Walk of Fame:

Beverly Graves. Were it not for Beverly Graves, there would likely be no Union Street Players as it exists today. Beverly was the driving force in starting USP back in the late 1980's. She oversaw USP's incorporation, she served as President during the formative years of our organization, and for the first ten years she did whatever needed to be done on stage and off. As you list all the roles of a community theatre production, there are precious few that Beverly has not, at some point in time, filled for USP. The type of commitment Beverly displayed in getting USP off the ground is the very reason we felt the need to have a Walk of Fame.

Peggy Moriarity. Casual USP audience members may not find Peggy Moriarity a familiar face. Until landing a leading role in this year's production, Letters from Pella, Peggy's on-stage roles have consisted of smaller roles and parts in the chorus. Her off-stage work, however, has been nothing short of monumental in the continuing success of USP. Peggy has quietly, faithfully contributed, both in productions and as an organization, wherever she was needed. Costumes, make-up, costume shop, set work, hair stylist, kid keeper, and for many years – perennial Secretary. USP is honored to applaud Peggy's incredible off-stage accomplishments.

In addition to honoring our inductees, we will enjoy a special look back at 2008-2009 and the three successful productions we've staged since last year's Award's Night: Cheaper by the Dozen, Letters from Pella, and Sound of Music.

Everyone is welcome to join us for USP's 2nd Annual Awards Night, honoring Dottie, Beverly and Peggy. Tickets are $20 (includes dinner) in advance or $25 at the door. There will be a cash bar open at 5:30 p.m. Dinner and the program will begin at 6:30 p.m. To R.S.V.P. and purchase your tickets in advance (Visa/Mastercard/Discover), please call Tom or Wendy at 641-620-9107.
