This from USP Board Member, Spence Ver Meer:
The School Board gets an encore!
In case you haven’t heard, the School Board Barbershop Quartet is singing up at the Iowa State Fair! Karl Ribbens, Robert Uy, Gary Verhoef and Spence Ver Meer are gathering one more time in front of an audience to reprise a few of their songs on stage with the Des Moines Pride of Iowa Barbershop Chorus.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of when Meridith Willson first put the Music Man on Broadway, and to commemorate the event, Pride of Iowa was looking for one of the established quartets to sing some of the songs from the musical. After Robert asked a few of the quartets if they were interested, they politely declined, preferring to stick their own repertoire than learn several songs from scratch in a short period of time. Robert asked the higher-ups if it would be ok for the Pella Quartet to join in, since the music was learned, and all singers were previous member of P.O.I. They agreed with Robert.
So that brings us to today. The performance/concert will start at 1pm, this Sunday afternoon, August 12, at the Anderson Erickson Stage. Hope to see you there!
