Many new residents to Pella find Union Street Players a great way to get involved in the community. Mark Moreland is a case-in-point. Mark moved to Pella from Pennsylvania about three years ago to take a position as Quality Engineer with Pella Corp. In that time, Mark has been seen regularly on the USP stage.
Mark’s credits for USP include The Christmas Post, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, A Christmas Carol, Yes, Virginia, and South Pacific. It should be noted that Mark was well suited for the role of Stewpot in South Pacific. He lived on a South Pacific island for a few years while he was in high school! In addition to his work for USP, Mark has also been involved with the Pella Shakespeare Company’s summer productions for the past two years.
For USP’s upcoming production of the Paul Osborne comedy Morning’s at Seven, Mark plays the jovial and good natured Thor Swanson. Thor is married to Cora, one of the four elderly Gibbs sisters. The youngest of the sisters, Arry, has never married – choosing to live with Thor and Cora for over forty years. Thor seems to have a special concern for Arry – perhaps a little too special the rest of family speculates. Is there something going on between Thor and Arry? Even Cora feels uncomfortable with the hold the younger sister seems to have on her husband.
“This is the first time I’ve been in a play with an all-adult cast.” Mark says, “The people involved in this play are a lot of fun to be with. We have a really talented cast that enjoys bringing this story to life. People should enjoy the portrait of a day in the life of these four sisters.”
When it came to casting the show, Mark was an easy choice for the part of Thor says the play’s director. “Mark has a lot of Thor’s qualities. He brings a lot of fun, laughter and joy to the set – and infuses that life into the character of Thor.”
We invite you to come and have a laugh with Mark and the rest of the cast of Morning’s at Seven.
