Union Street Players 2013 Season

Union Street Players, Pella’s award-winning community theatre, is proud to announce our 2013 season. Originally planning to produce My Fair Lady this summer, we were delayed in announcing our season because months of effort to secure the rights to the show proved futile. Nevertheless, “the show must go on” and we are excited to have two great shows for our patrons and community this year!

Bye Bye Birdie
by Michael Stewart, lyrics by Lee Adams, and music by Charles Strouse.
Directed by Denise Gregory
Audition dates have not been set but tentatively scheduled for early/mid May
Production dates tentatively set July 26-28 and Aug 1-3

Originally titled Let’s Go Steady, the satire on American society is set in 1958. The story was inspired by the phenomenon of popular singer Elvis Presley and his draft notice into the Army in 1957. The rock star character’s name, “Conrad Birdie,” is word play on the name of Conway Twitty. Twitty is best remembered today for his long career as a country music star, but in the late 1950s, he was one of Presley’s rock ‘n’ roll rivals. This musical with its 50′s nostalgia and rockabilly music is sure to be a crowd pleaser for the whole family! This is the first time USP has produced the popular Broadway musical.

 Union Street Players

proudly announces auditions for

The Night of January 16th

A play by Ayn Rand

March 29th – April 1st, 2012

Bjorn Faulkner has swindled millions of dollars from investors, investing cash he did not have in order to control the gold trade.  In the wake of a crash, he is facing bankruptcy despite borrowing money from Mr. John Graham Whitfield, a prominent banker whose daughter, Nancy Lee, married Faulkner shortly after the loan.  On the night of January 16th, Faulkner and Karen Andre, his secretary and lover, are in the penthouse at the top of the Faulkner Building in New York when Faulkner falls to his death.  Shortly thereafter Karen Andre is accused of murdering him and is put on trial.  But did she kill him?  Did he commit suicide rather than face his financial troubles?  Or did someone else have a motive for ending his life?  Only YOU, the jury selected from our audience, can decide the fate of Karen Andre!  Come witness (and maybe be a part of) the trial, shift through the evidence, and render a verdict – is Karen Andre guilty or not guilty?
